Safety at Storal

At Storal, the safety and wellbeing of our children is central to everything we do.

Across all of our nursery environments, we create safe, nurturing spaces where children feel comfortable and families feel confident.

We support this through clear policies, consistent procedures, and shared expectations across all our nurseries. Our specialist teams work closely with each setting to support team development, review practice, and maintain strong standards day to day.

How we support children's safety

CCTV & Image Capturing

All Storal nurseries are equipped with CCTV to support a safe and secure environment for children, families and our team.

Our cameras:

  • Help provide reassurance to our families and team
  • Support training, reflection and the ongoing review of practice
  • Are managed securely in line with strict privacy requirements
  • Only accessed when necessary and in accordance with our safeguarding procedures

We also operate a strict “no phone and camera” policy within our nursery buildings.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

Our nurseries are regulated and inspected by Ofsted. In addition, our in-house Education and Quality Assurance teams work closely with each setting to support consistent standards across all of our nurseries.

  • Internal and external inspections take place twice a year.
  • Practice is reviewed against the EYFS and Ofsted requirements
  • Findings are used to inform ongoing improvements

Safer Recruitment

We follow safer recruitment procedures to ensure that everyone working in our nurseries is suitable, qualified and able to support the safety and wellbeing of children.

  • We follow Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance
  • Enhanced DBS checks, references and appropriate vetting are completed before employment begins
  • Ongoing training supports safeguarding awareness, including regular refresher training for all team members

Safeguarding Culture

Safeguarding is embedded in everyday practice across all of our nurseries. Every team member shares responsibility for supporting the safety, wellbeing and protection of children.

  • Each nursery has a Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • All team members receive regular training in safeguarding and child protection
  • We promote an open and transparent culture where concerns can be raised and discussed
  • Our whistleblowing policy and team app provide clear and secure ways to raise concerns with leadership

Dietary Safety

We provide healthy, balanced meals and snacks that meet children’s individual dietary needs and cultural requirements. Careful planning and clear procedures help ensure that food is managed safely and consistently across our nurseries.

  • Food is sourced from approved and trusted suppliers
  • All team members are trained in mealtime procedures and food safety
  • Allergies and individual dietary requirements are carefully recorded and managed

Health, Safety & First Aid

Every team member is trained in the Storal Framework, which sets out our core approach to health and safety.

We carry out regular audits across each nursery to ensure environments remain safe, well maintained and consistent.

All educators are trained in paediatric First Aid, supporting a confident and responsive approach to children’s health and safety at all times.

Building Security & Maintenance

All of our nurseries have secure access systems and clear procedures in place to manage entry and ensure that only authorised individuals can access the building.

Our nurseries are supported by a dedicated maintenance team, based locally, who respond promptly to ensure environments remain safe and well maintained.

  • Ongoing refurbishment programmes help keep spaces safe and well presented
  • Buildings and outdoor environments are regularly checked and maintained

Cyber Security

We take a careful and structured approach to protecting the personal information of children, families and our team. Our systems and processes are designed to ensure data is handled securely and responsibly across all areas of our nurseries.

  • Data is stored securely using encrypted systems and controlled access
  • Systems are monitored to support protection against unauthorised access
  • We work with trusted partners who meet recognised security and compliance standards
  • Team members receive ongoing training to support safe and appropriate handling of information
