At Blueberry Nursery in Hove, learning is heading to the coast.

Three members of the team have successfully completed Beach School training with the Sussex Wildlife Trust, meaning children can now enjoy regular beach-based adventures as part of nursery life.

Early Years Educators Holly Brunton and Magdalena Coles, alongside Senior Early Years Educator and SENDCO Seth Bower, have all qualified to lead Beach School sessions, bringing a whole new way for children to explore, discover and connect with the world around them.

Just a short walk from the nursery on Davigdor Road, the beach will become an extension of the classroom, giving children hands-on opportunities to learn through play, curiosity and exploration.

Much like Forest School, which Blueberry children already enjoy every week, Beach School follows a child-led approach that encourages children to learn at their own pace. From exploring rock pools and discovering coastal wildlife to understanding tides, creating natural artwork and building shelters, every session is designed to spark imagination and confidence while nurturing a love of nature.

As well as learning about the seaside environment, children will also be encouraged to become young guardians of the coast through beach cleans and activities focused on protecting marine habitats.

Becky Bushell, Nursery Manager at Blueberry Nursery, said:

"Our children are growing up minutes from the sea, and these sessions mean they get to really know it. They'll be rock pooling, spotting wildlife and learning why the beach matters and how to look after it.

Watching a child explore the beach for the first time, gathering shells and turning them into their own artwork, is what early years education is all about. These are the experiences children remember, and they build confidence, resilience and a real love of the natural world."

Blueberry Nursery cares for children aged six weeks to five years in a cosy, home-from-home setting in the heart of Hove. Alongside Beach School and weekly Forest School sessions, children enjoy a rich programme of experiences including cookery, yoga and seasonal community events.

With fresh meals and snacks prepared daily by the nursery's on-site chef, thoughtfully designed learning environments and a strong focus on outdoor exploration, Blueberry is all about creating meaningful experiences that help children thrive.

And now, with the beach on their doorstep, there's even more to discover.
